September 22, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Norfolk Arts Offsite Gallery at the World Trade Center
For his new show, Neighborhood Watch at the Offsite Gallery, Andy Harris sought out artifacts significant to Norfolk and rendered them with a starkness to create an instant vitality.
A City's history makes up the tapestry of its present. Much history is well known, but some of the best stories can be found by inquiring about seemingly benign objects. Whether it's a family heirloom, a memento from an old friend, or simply an item from the past that always makes its way back upon the shelf, certain objects have the power to conjure up stories. They are often conduits of people we were, feelings we've felt and battles won or lost. Sometimes they represent personal stories but other times they represent a trade or an enterprise and as Andy Harris has found, they may even represent an entire City.
Andy teaches art at the Old Donation Center School in Va. Beach and is a resident artist at Glass Wheel Studio. He is a graduate of VCU. Visit his website: aharrisart.com
