[ARCHIVED] NPD Investigating a Serious Crash Involving a Teenager

On September 15, 2014, around 6:15 pm, a call was received in the Emergency Communications Center for a motor vehicle accident with injuries involving a juvenile pedestrian, at the intersection of Tidewater Drive and Brambleton Avenue. Norfolk Police and Fire Rescue responded and discovered a 18-year-old male suffering with serious injuries. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he is in critical condition at this time. Preliminary investigation reveals that the teenager and two other teens were attempting to cross the intersection, when the teen ran in front of a Ford Ranger who was travelling southbound on Tidewater Drive, through a green light. No other children were struck during this crash. The driver of the Ford Ranger stayed on the scene. Norfolk Police Traffic unit officers are actively investigating this crash. Neither alcohol nor speed seems to be factor at this time.
