[ARCHIVED] Man Crashes Vehicle After Suffering Medical Emergency

A 70-year-old man crashed his Dodge Caravan this evening in Norfolk around 8:30 in the 5900 block of Chesapeake Blvd after suffering from a medical emergency.

Witnesses told police that the man was traveling southbound on Chesapeake Blvd when his vehicle left the roadway, struck a wire in the median, and ended up in the northbound traffic lanes.

He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries as a result of his medical emergency.

The northbound lanes in the 5900 block of Chesapeake Blvd are currently closed due to the crash, and should be reopened within the hour.

There were no other vehicles involved, and the man was the only occupant in the vehicle.
