[ARCHIVED] Disturbance call leads to man shot, found dead

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk police detectives have classified an early-morning shooting as an undetermined death.

Police say they found a man in the 1100 block of Jernigan Avenue suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

This appears to be an isolated incident and detectives are not searching for suspects at this time.

The man's identity will not be released until his family has been properly notified.

There is no further information available for release at this time.

NORFOLK, Va. – Police are investigating a suspicious death in Norfolk early Saturday morning.

Norfolk dispatchers were contacted shortly before 1:00 a.m. in regards to a noise disturbance in the 1100 block of Jernigan Avenue. The call was quickly updated to a possible gunshot victim as police officers responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from what appears to be a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding this suspicious death.

The victim's identity will not be released until his family or next of kin has been properly notified.

Police have not released any other information. Once new details emerge, an updated release will be disseminated.
