NORFOLK, Va. – A shooting early Saturday morning has resulted in a mother’s death, and her son facing murder charges.
Shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday morning police received a call for a woman who had been shot in the 7900 block of Westcliff Drive.
The woman, 43-year-old Sonya Hunter, was found outside the residence, on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but died shortly after 3 p.m.
Shawn Hunter, 22, the victim's son, was taken into custody inside the home without incident.
He has been charged with 2nd degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Shawn is currently in the Norfolk City Jail held with no bond. Once the booking process is completed, his booking photo and charges can be viewed on the Norfolk Sheriff inmate information website.
The three small children found near the scene unharmed, were relatives of the Hunters’ and are now with their parents.
A motive has not yet been determined in this incident.
