NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police detectives have charged a man in connection to Tuesday evening’s shooting incident.
Shortly after 10:00 p.m., police were dispatched to a “shots in progress” call for service in the 3200 block of Peronne Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a man and 12-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds.
Medics transported the victims from the scene to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of what is considered to be non-life threatening injuries.
Preliminary information obtained suggests this was an isolated incident following an argument. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
During the course of the investigation, Norfolk police learned of a walk-in gunshot victim at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The walk-in, Thomas Q. Hairston (18), was positively identified as the suspect in the shooting incident. Detectives secured four felony charges against Hairston: 2 counts of malicious wounding and 2 counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Hairston remains hospitalized in critical, but stable condition. Once discharged from the hospital, Hairston will be transported to the Norfolk City Jail. Upon completion of the booking process, a mug shot will be made publicly available.
Hairston is a Norfolk resident, last known to live in the 6600 block of Chesapeake Boulevard.
