[ARCHIVED] Police are investigating after a man died Friday evening

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot and killed Friday night.

Around 8:40 p.m. police were dispatched to the 900 block of Trice Terrace for a man possibly suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they discovered 44-year-old Hardley R. Henry of Norfolk, suffering with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was transported by medics to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police took 28-year-old Akeem J. Shelford into custody a short time later. Shelford has been charged with second degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Shelford is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond. Detectives are not looking for any additional suspects.
