NORFOLK, VA – Norfolk’s City Council will hold a work session on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 4 p.m. and a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2021 Proposed Budget at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Norfolk City Hall, Council Chamber, 810 Union Street.
To comply with state and federal recommendations to slow the spread of COVID-19, occupancy in the Council Chamber within City Hall will be limited.
However, City Council members and city staff want to ensure that all Norfolk residents can participate in this budget process.
Residents can watch the work session livestream on Norfolk.gov and COX Channel TV48.
“These are unprecedented times, but the critical work of the City continues,” said Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, Ph.D. “Although safety measures due to COVID-19 preclude us from conducting the budget public hearing in person, we remain committed to holding a transparent and inclusive meeting. Residents are encouraged to participate in this process through a variety of digital platforms.”

Residents may also submit comments to the City Clerk in advance of the May 6 public hearing Anyone who wishes to submit a comment and not attend the meeting in person may participate by email, phone or videoconference. To do so, prior to the meeting:
1. For email comments, provide name, budget item and comment and send to email@example.com. The Clerk will note your email and budget subject for the formal record.
2. To participate by phone: email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 757-664-4253 and provide name, budget subject and phone number. A member of the Clerk’s staff will call when Council is ready for your comment. The speaker will have up to three minutes to address Council by phone.
3. To participate by videoconference: either email email@example.com or call 757-664-4253 and provide name, budget subject and phone number, prior to the meeting.
