City of Norfolk Encourages Safe Celebrations and Closes for Thanksgiving Holiday

Thursday trash and recycling routes will be picked up on Saturday, November 28.

NORFOLK, VA – The City of Norfolk encourages individuals to follow the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health guidelines for safe and healthy Thanksgiving gatherings. Health experts put activities into low, medium, and high-risk categories. The City encourages individuals to make the best decision for themselves. The City of Norfolk’s government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. All recreation centers and Norfolk Public Library will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25. Slover will close at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25. All recreation centers and libraries will reopen at normal business hours on Saturday, November 28. 

The Commissioner of the Revenue and City Treasurer offices and the Norfolk Courthouse will close at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25.

Thursday trash and recycling routes will be picked up on Saturday, November 28. Friday collection will take place as scheduled. Need a bulk waste pickup on Friday, November 27 or Saturday, November 28? Schedule the request by 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25. To schedule, use the MyNorfolk mobile app, online resident portal or call 664-6510.

Norfolk residents can drop-off unwanted E-waste on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 8 a.m. – noon day at the Division of Towing and Recovery located at 1188-A Lance Road.
