Jury Convicts Norfolk Man on All Counts for 2020 Assault, Strangulation of Woman
NORFOLK, Va. – A Norfolk jury on Monday convicted 44-year-old Gary Morton as charged of strangulation, abduction, intentionally damaging property, and assault and battery, after Mr. Morton attacked a woman inside her downtown apartment on Sept. 26, 2020.
After about one and a half hours of deliberation following the day-long trial, the jury found Mr. Morton guilty as charged. He is docketed for sentencing on Dec. 15 on those charges. Since Mr. Morton has other criminal charges pending, the Commonwealth will have no further comment.
Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Gordon C. Ufkes and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Anthony J. Balady are prosecuting Mr. Morton’s cases on behalf of the Commonwealth.
