NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police are investigating a deadly three vehicle crash on the Roland Park overpass early Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 6 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries on the Roland park overpass in the 6400 block of Tidewater Drive.
The preliminary investigation has revealed a Cadillac CTS was travelling northbound on Tidewater Drive. The driver lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the median and struck a Ford Escort head-on that was traveling southbound.
As a result of this collision, the Ford was pushed into a Chevrolet Silverado travelling in the same direction.
The driver of the escort, 68-year-old Janis B. Neal, of the 1100 block of Old Buckroe Road in Hampton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 48-year-old driver of the Cadillac was taken to the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 27-year-old man, was not injured.
There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash.
The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is investigating this crash and upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
