MacArthur Memorial Announces 3rd Annual Military History Film Festival

The MacArthur Memorial is hosting its third annual Military History Film Festival August – October 2018.

NORFOLK,Va. – The MacArthur Memorial is hosting its third annual Military History Film Festival August – October 2018.  To commemorate the World War I Centennial, the 2018 films will focus on the courage and sacrifice of American troops in World War I.

The film festival will kick off on August 9, 2018.  In partnership with the Military Aviation Museum of Virginia Beach, the MacArthur Memorial will screen The Millionaires' Unit (2015) (120 mins).   This documentary tells the dramatic story of a group of Yale college students who became the first to fly for the United States in World War I.  Narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor Bruce Dern (grandnephew of one of the aviators), and filmed in the U.S., England, France, Belgium and New Zealand, the film addresses patriotism, sacrifice, and the little-known story of the origins of American air power.

The festival will continue with screenings of The Fighting 69th (1940) on September 13, 2018 and Sergeant York (1941) on October 4, 2018.

All screenings will take place in the MacArthur Memorial Visitors Center Theatre at 7:00 PM.  Admission is FREE but registration is requested.  Visit www.macarthurmemorial.org for more information or to register.
