Southside Connector Project Public Information

We heard citizen concerns about the Virginia Natural Gas Southside Connector Project.

City staff addressed those concerns by hiring leading experts in gas pipeline safety and engineering to review the project.

Their safety assessments were presented to Norfolk City Council on November 20th.

You can watch the presentations here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtL1Jw-h-cM

You can view the first report here and the second safety assessment here.

After hearing the reports, the City Council directed City Manager Doug Smith to send a letter on November 24th with questions from City Council to Mr. James Kibler, President, Virginia Natural Gas.

You can read the letter here.

Mr. Kibler responded to those questions in an email on Sunday, November 25th.

You can read his response here.

Utility companies operate in the right-of-way by franchise agreement and/or licenses some dating back to the 1800’s.  These projects are inspected by city, state, and federal regulators that follow a stringent and thorough process to ensure that all communication, electrical, water, gas, and sewer lines are installed to meet or exceed standards.
