Norfolk Woman Sentenced to 9 Years for Stabbing Another Woman in 2022

NORFOLK, Va. – Tarsha Laquita Williams, 33, was sentenced Friday to nine active years in prison for stabbing another woman in her chest after provoking a fight with the victim.

On March 4, 2022, the victim and a friend were getting ready for the victim’s birthday party. Before leaving for the party, the two walked to the friend’s car to let her dog outside. As the two approached the car, another vehicle pulled up behind them. Three women, including Ms. Williams, exited the car, and Ms. Williams said to the victim, "You remember me?" Ms. Williams and the victim began to fight near the friend’s vehicle, Ms. Williams pinned the victim down to the hood of the car, and Ms. Williams stabbed the victim just below her collar bone. The victim’s friend then produced a firearm, prompting Ms. Williams and the other two women to drive off.

The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, and she provided statements to Norfolk Police. Ms. Williams, a Norfolk State University alumna, was confirmed to be the suspect with the help of university police and was arrested on March 30, 2022.

On Jan. 18, 2023, a Norfolk jury convicted Ms. Williams of aggravated malicious wounding. On Friday, Judge Mary Jane Hall sentenced Ms. Williams to serve 20 years in prison, with 11 years suspended conditioned upon indeterminate supervised probation.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryce P. Schuman prosecuted Ms. Williams’ case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
