How can I get a birth certificate?
All birth certificates are issued from the Richmond Bureau of Vital Statistics. Please call 804-662-6200 for more information.
3.
What is the cost of a death certificate?
The Code of Virginia requires a cost of $12.00 per certificate/search. There is no refund if the certificate is not found. If no record is found for a death certificate request, a “No Record” letter will be issued. Make checks or money orders payable to Norfolk Department of Public Health. Do not send cash.
4.
What are your hours of operation?
We are open to the public from 8:15 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. We are closed on major holidays.
5.
What records do you have?
Deaths: Last 5 years from the current year. All other death records please mail request to:
