NBN Academy: Community Placemaking and Using Block-By-Block Grants
Tuesday, January 31, 2023
Learn how civic leagues can use Norfolk's Block-By-Block Neighborhood Pride Grants for Placemaking.
Placemaking is a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design, and management of public spaces. Placemaking capitalizes on a local community's assets, inspiration, and potential, with the intention of creating public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, and well-being. Learn techniques and principles while creating a crafting project that can be a mobile placemaking art piece aimed at making your community more vibrant. Placemaking does not need to be expensive or extensive to create a place or object of interest. This session will give special consideration to how Block-by-Block grants that can be utilized to help with this process. Join presenters Jamie Goldin (Neighborhood Services), Karen Rudd (Norfolk Arts), and Alana Smith (Public Works) to create an art piece to be displayed at various community events and locations that will inspire others to get involved with placemaking in the future. Note: Please bring any items that can be used to create the piece of art. Maybe your neighborhood has a sticker, patch, sand, picture, or any other item that can be utilized for the placemaking craft display. Please be willing to part with the item as it will be a permanent piece of the project.
