  1. "A Saturday in Ocean View" photographs by Glen McClure

    March 15 - April 26 @ Offsite Gallery, World Trade Center

    Glen McClure’s photographs forge a connection between the subject and the viewer. For this exhibition, Glen and a team of four created portraits of random people encountered in parking lots, on sidewalks and at the beach entrance to the Chesapeake Bay during a September 29, 2018 visit to the Ocean View neighborhood. With over 60 solo exhibitions since 1997, Glen’s work can be found in collections at the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Mariners’ Museum, the Taubman Museum of Art and in numerous private collections.

  2. Giacomo Puccini: Madama Butterfly

    March 15 - March 19 @ Harrison Opera House

    Puccini’s timeless masterpiece takes the Virginia Opera stage rendering this heartbreaking drama and mesmerizing score, featuring the poignant aria “Un bel di”. A tale of love and sacrifice set against a clash of cultures, Puccini’s use of authentic Japanese themes and soaring Italian lyricism creates a powerful emotional experience. Soprano Danielle Pastin, who charmed audiences as Liù in Puccini’s Turandot with Virginia Opera in 2016/2017, sings Cio-Cio-San, opposite tenor Matthew Vickers as the American naval officer who loves her and leaves her. The orchestra for this production is provided by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Running time: 2h 57m including intermission Sung in Italian with English Supertitles Join Dr. Glenn Winters for his “Opera Up Close” pre-curtain talk forty-five minutes before each performance for his informative and entertaining insights on each production.

  1. Community Information Meeting: Granby Street Bridge

    March 18, 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM @ Tabernacle Church Of Norfolk

    The Granby Street Bridge will undergo extensive repairs and restoration this summer. Construction to rehabilitate the bridge will begin this spring and end next summer. Residents, businesses and motorists are invited to attend one of three Community Information Meetings to learn more about the project, including temporary traffic patterns that will be in place during construction.
