  1. "A Saturday in Ocean View" photographs by Glen McClure

March 15 - April 26 @ Offsite Gallery, World Trade Center

Glen McClure’s photographs forge a connection between the subject and the viewer. For this exhibition, Glen and a team of four created portraits of random people encountered in parking lots, on sidewalks and at the beach entrance to the Chesapeake Bay during a September 29, 2018 visit to the Ocean View neighborhood. With over 60 solo exhibitions since 1997, Glen’s work can be found in collections at the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Mariners’ Museum, the Taubman Museum of Art and in numerous private collections.

  2. Virginia Stage Company: Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eyes

    March 20, 7:30 PM - March 24 @ Wells Theater

Adapted from Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's first novel, this play explores race and class during the post-Great Depression era. Young Pecola Breedlove prays for Shirley Temples' blue eyes, sure that love and acceptance will follow; but for a young black girl in Ohio in the 1940's, fitting in is easier wished for than done. This poetic narrative illuminates the destructive powers of racism, colorism, and how the dynamics of family and community can lift us up or tear us down. Produced in collaboration with Norfolk State University Theatre Company.

  6. Virginia Symphony Orchestra: A Mozart Celebration

    March 23, 8:00 PM @ Chrysler Hall

Guest conductor Scott Yoo, Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Mexico City Philharmonic, takes the helm of this magnificent Mozart program. Symphony No. 39 is the first of a set of three symphonies, the last set he composed. Its opening is “so majestic that it so surprised even the coldest, most insensitive listener.” The program opens with the Overture to The Magic Flute before Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, a work that blends symphony with concerto in this small-ensemble masterpiece. With its rich harmonies and incandescent themes, the work has inspired arrangers and composers for centuries. This beautiful piece, the only surviving complete concerto for this combination of instruments, features principal musicians of the VSO. Scott Yoo , conductor Sherie Aguirre , oboe Michael Byerly , clarinet Laura Leisring , bassoon Jacob Wilder , horn Mozart : Overture to The Magic Flute Mozart : Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, K. 297b Mozart : Symphony No. 39
