  2. Fill a time capsule at Munson Park during public art dedication

    January 25, 2020, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM @ Munson Park

Artist Ken McCall has incorporated three 16"x14"x6" time capsules into the base of our newest public art project "Place In Time" being installed at Munson Park. You're invited to join us for a dedication, light refreshments and spoken word. Be sure to bring a small, non-perishable item to contribute and be part of a new Park Place community tradition. Ken will be vacuum sealing items to be placed inside of the water-tight containers. We will do our best to incorporate all items delivered. Parking is best along 26th and 27th St. to Colley Ave. or at the Park Place Child Life Center. The free-standing sculpture represents generations and the changing dynamics within the community. A center tree contains elm tree-shaped leaves with Park Place street names that move in the wind. At times, the spinning motion will form the shape of a heart. Three figures surrounding the tree signify the roots of Park Place; the past, present and future generations. https://mccall-studios.com

  3. Night of Philosophy and Ideas

    January 25, 2020, 7:00 PM - January 26, 2020, 7:00 AM @ Slover Library - Alive

The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, Old Dominion University, and the Slover Library Foundation present an all-night marathon event of ideas, philosophy, music, art and much more. In cities all across five continents and now arriving in Norfolk, the Night of Ideas is a world-wide event that celebrates the stream of ideas between countries, cultures, topics, and generations. The 2020 edition of the Night of Ideas centers around the common theme “être vivant” or “being alive.” Guests will gather together to ask: What is being alive? What is our place in the living world? How does “Being Alive” impose us to take action?
