  2. Virginia Stage Company, Public Works VA presents Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors

    Virginia Stage Company’s Public Works Virginia will present Comedy of Errors to public outdoor playing spaces across Hampton Roads. This zany and unexpected adaptation of Shakespeare's play, adapted by Ryan Clemens (A Christmas Carol, Meet Mark Twain) and directed by Steve Pacek (The Legend of Georgia McBride) goes beyond the schtick to play with the concept of family and the power of belonging. The tour will be presented in public parks, outdoor venues, and The Wells Theatre on weekends during May 2021.

  4. 37th Annual Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival

    May 15, 2021 - May 16, 2021

    Hope House Foundation is pleased to announce that the 37th Annual Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival, sponsored by TowneBank, will be held virtually on May 15 and 16. Participants will be able to view and purchase works of art and enjoy performances from the region’s favorite musicians. Every artist will have links to their website for purchases, and several pieces will be available through a virtual auction. Proceeds from the Stockley Gardens Arts Festivals support the programs of Hope House Foundation, the first organization in Virginia to provide support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes. The spring and fall festivals, the largest fundraiser for the organization, generate $80,000 that is used to provide necessities for the people who receive services such as assistance with food, medical expenses, dental care, clothing and housing.

    Norfolk Festevents is excited to announce Bayou Bon Vivant: A Cajun Music, Food & Arts Celebration on Friday & Saturday, May 14 & 15, 2021, at Town Point Park along the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront. The event runs from 4-9pm on Friday and 12-9pm on Saturday. Bayou Bon Vivant is FREE and open to the public. To comply with local and state COVID-19 health guidelines, there will be limited capacity at the event, and admission into the event will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There are several options for guests that wish to ensure they reserve a spot in the event. Reserving a Social Circle or Premier Table Seating is the best way to guarantee a premium spot in the park with preferred views of the main stage for guests to enjoy.

  8. Virginia Symphony presents Gerard Schwarz, conductor and Aundi Marie Moore, Soprano

    Internationally recognized for his moving performances, innovative programming and extensive catalogue of recordings, American conductor Gerard Schwarz appears with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Chesapeake native, Grammy Award-winning soprano Aundi Marie Moore on Saturday May 15 for works by American Composers Copland, Barber, and Still. Schwarz serves as Music Director of the All-Star Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival, Palm Beach Symphony and Mozart Orchestra of New York, and is Conductor Laureate of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Emeritus of the Mostly Mozart Festival.

  2. Broad Creek Legacy Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony - SOLD OUT

    Broad Creek Legacy Park was an initiative spearheaded by Councilwoman Mamie B. Johnson to establish a new park in the Broad Creek emerging district. The park theme is "Healthy, Active and Abundant," and includes walking trails, open space, game tables and an urban orchard. Join us for remarks and a ribbon cutting on May 15 at 11 a.m. (SOLD OUT). A FREE tree planting station will be onsite, to include fruit and vegetable seeds, potting soil and pots. Fresh fruit and refreshments will be served.     Helmet giveaways and fittings and bike safety checks for student cyclists at Tarrallton Elementary School. Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federal initiative designed to promote walking and biking to school as an alternate transportation option to increase student activity levels and reduce fuel emissions. SRTS programming in Virginia also supports activities designed to get students moving before, during, and after the school day. Norfolk Public Schools and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are committed to ensuring that kids walk and bike along safe routes.
