d'Art Center presents "Surface: Textures and Patterns in Artwork"

Surface is an exhibition of artworks that highlights the use of textures and patterns in artworks from across the country. We want our patrons to be able to “feel” the textures in the work with their eyes, and to get lost in all the patterns! The call reached 39 states. 218 artists submitted for a total of 781 submissions. d’Art’s Gallery Manager, and the juror selected 64 pieces from 60 artists from 23 states (9 Virginians)! This is a juried exhibition, and was co-curated by gallery manager Amanda Bradley, and exhibition juror and artist, Jorge A. Saenz. Jorge also has a piece on display in the Surface Exhibition.

Norfolk RPOS Summer Esports League

Attention all gamers! Join Recreation, Parks and Open Space in a national Esports Summer League! Youth, ages 9 -17, are encouraged to participate. Little Theatre of Norfolk presents Open Mic Night

Calling all singers, dancers, comics and artists alike! Share your craft in front of a live audience at Little Theatre of Norfolk's Open Mic Night. Little Theatre of Norfolk is ecstatic to be welcoming back the Norfolk community with this collaborative, jubilant event. After over a year in isolation, let’s gather together to celebrate the local talent of Hampton Roads. Come out and support local artists as they share their talents with the community once again.

JokingJoe and Friends Comedy Show

JokingJoe (born Joseph Johnson) is a local comic born in Norfolk, Virginia. JokingJoe began his comedy career in 2002 at the Virginia House of Comedy, working with the likes of Eddie Griffith, Mike Epps, Sommore, Adele Givens, Monique, Arnez J, Nephew Tommy, Tony Rock, and more. He's performed at various night clubs and venues, including the Virginia Beach & Richmond Funnybone. JokingJoe is also a community activist in the City Of Norfolk. He has been giving back to the community for 10 years during Easter, Back to School Drives, giving away turkeys for Thanksgiving, toys for Christmas, and traveling to VA state prisons to give motivational speeches.

Shakespeare in the Plot presents Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare in the Plot is coming to Norfolk July 23-25 with a FREE public production of Romeo and Juliet! The production is set in the Roaring Twenties and to go along with it, we’re turning the Plot in the NEON District into a weekend-long 1920s-themed party. Learn the Charleston, take photos with costumed characters, join us for beer, music, food, and of course the production itself-ROMEO & JULIET! Come as you are, or, dressed in your favorite 20s themed looks. Reserved seating only. Romeo and Juliet is directed by the Emmy Nominated, Deborah Wallace (Blood on the Mountain, Gasland Part 2) and Brant Powell (That Sinking Feeling) and produced by the Push Comedy Theater's Brad McMurran and Sean Devereux

Anthem LemonAid Kids Helping Kids With Cancer

It wouldn’t be summer in Hampton Roads without Anthem LemonAid– a grassroots, community-wide fundraising effort focused on safely gathering family, friends and colleagues around neighborhood lemonade stands. Enjoy cold glasses of lemonade for the benefit of children cancer patients at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). Beginning July 1, we encourage the Hampton Roads community to safely rally behind our families served at CHKD by choosing your favorite way to participate in this year’s event: pick up your free supplies and safely host a traditional Anthem LemonAid stand in person, stay virtual and participate in a series of lemon-inspired interactive challenges, or do both!
