In September, the US FDA authorized the use of updated COVID-19 mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is also known as the 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine. The CDC recommends that everyone 6 months or older get a 2023–2024 COVID-19 vaccine, either Pfizer or Moderna. Novavax may also soon be available.
The 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine will be available in Norfolk in October through local pharmacies and many providers. private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid will cover the cost of the vaccine.
Children who do not have insurance can get a free vaccine through the Vaccines for Children program.
Adults who do not have insurance can get a free vaccine from the Norfolk Department of Public Health (NDPH) and other participating locations through the CDC’s Bridge Access Program.
Additionally, there are three Saturday Flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics that are held at NDPH, between 10am and 2pm, on the following dates:
- October 21
- November 4
- November 18
