Mamie B. Johnson
Mamie B. Johnson was elected to City Council on May 6, 2014, to represent Ward 3.

She is a 1984 graduate of Maury High School, where she served as Senior Class President. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Norfolk State University.

Ms. Johnson was employed for 14 years as a teacher with Norfolk Public Schools, and was an Instructional Specialist for an additional 6 years. She presently serves as Director of the Before and After School Program at Richard Bowling Elementary School and the Life Enrichment Center Urban Youth Summer Camp.

Ms. Johnson is the Co-Chair of City Council’s Communities and Public Safety Committee and a member of its Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee.  She is City Council’s designated representative to Virginia First Cities Coalition.

She serves on the Broad Creek Coalition, Fairmount Park and Greater Norview task forces, and the Richard Bowling Elementary School PTA Board.  Previously, she served on the Lafayette-Winona School Planning Management Team.

Additionally, she is a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association of Norfolk, Norfolk City Democratic Committee, Upsilon Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 

Ms. Johnson previously served on the Digital Inclusion Community Advisory Board, YMCA Community Service Board of Managers, Hampton Roads Children of the Sun and America’s Promise Youth Dropout Prevention Committee.

Ms. Johnson is married to William H. Johnson.
