Calling the Non-Emergency Number
The non-emergency line is staffed by the public safety
professionals who are trained to answer 911 and non-emergency telephone calls
as well as dispatch police, fire and medical resources. Our Public Safety
Telecommunicators gather critical information from callers to ensure the safety
and quality of life for residents, business and visitors in the City of
Norfolk.
Call the non-emergency number,
757-441-5610, to report the following:
- Any crime to a person not life threatening
- Burglary to a home not in progress
- Auto theft not in progress
- Parking complaints
- Loud music complaints
Citizens may also use, the Online Reporting System provided by the Norfolk Police Department.
What questions the Public Safety Telecommunicator will ask for non-emergency calls:
- What is the location?
- What is your phone number?
- What is your name?
- What is happening?
- When did the incident occur?
- Can you describe any suspicious persons or vehicles?
- Do you want contact from officers?
This line of questioning used provides the most accurate and detailed information to the first responders so they may have up to date situational awareness responding to all regardless of nature.
