Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) Community Liaison
In August 2015, the Norfolk Police Department appointed Sergeant Craig Lovelace as the official LGBTQ community liaison.  The LGBTQ community liaison focuses on the public safety needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning communities, as well as their allied partners.  In addition to public safety, Sgt. Lovelace serves as a resource to elevate the specific concerns and needs of Norfolk’s LGBTQ community members.

Currently, the Norfolk Police Department is creating a team of dedicated officers to assist Sgt. Lovelace and the police department in our allied efforts.

Sgt. Lovelace has been our ongoing advocate with and for the LGBTQ community and has coordinated multiple recruitment events during the Hampton Roads Pride Festivals.  He is a current member of the Hampton Roads Pride and assists with the local “Youth Out United – Youth Support Group” initiative.  Shortly after same sex marriage was legalized in Virginia, Sgt. Lovelace was married to his lifelong partner (and NPD lieutenant) in October 2014.  Both Sgt. Lovelace and his husband have been openly gay members of the department for over 20 years.

Sgt. Lovelace is currently assigned to the First Patrol Division.

You may email any LGBTQ questions or concerns to Sgt. Lovelace and his team at   .
