Norfolk Virginia Summer Camps 2017

Old Dominion University Big Blue Summer Camp 

June 19 - August 18 (ages 6-14) 

Student Recreation Center, 4700 Powhatan Avenue

For ages 6-14. Camp activities include indoor/outdoor games, free swim, arts and crafts, sports, rock climbing, kayaking, field trips. Each week has a different theme and campers can attend the series or individual camps. Cost $245/week for shorter day; additional $30 for extended day. Monday-Friday 9 am-4 pm or 7:30 am-5:30 pm. 

Camp Get out and Play - Recreation, Parks and Open Space

June 26 - August 25 (ages 5-12) 

For children ages 5-12. Must have completed kindergarten.Outdoor recreation, arts and crafts, athletic games, health/wellness activities, special guests, field trips. Child must have a valid Facility Use Card. $85/child. Field trip fees and t-shirt included. All forms and fees due at registration (money order, Visa/MasterCard accepted. Proof of Norfolk residency and birth certificate required at registration. Monday-Friday, from 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.  757-823-4291

Police Athletic League Camp Summer Camps 
July 10-July 27 (ages 8-12)
August 7-August 24 (ages 13-16)  

All participants are required to write an essay to participate in the camp entitled: "What Good Qualities Would I Bring to this Camp." 25 youth will be selected for each camp. The campers will engage in outdoor sporting events, field trips and other activities. The camp will help to develop healthy, positive relationships between police officers and youth, Parents or guardians must provide transportation to and from the camp, which is located at 2500 North Military Highway.  


Visual Arts Kids' Summer Camp 
July 17 - July 21
August 14 - August 18 
Titustown Visual Arts Center, 7545 Diven Street.
Ages 8-17 years

Hours are 1-4 pm. Join us for a week-long exploration of art. Each summer camp features different projects to inspire creativity. Dive in and enjoy drawing, painting and sculpture. Weekly rate: $65 resident; $98 nonresident.

Hermitage Yoga Camp

June 26-30, half day (ages 6-9)
August 28-30, full day (ages 6-9)
July 24, one full day (ages 9-12)

Hermitage Museum & Gardens, 7637 N. Shore Rd.
Yoga poses, breathing exercises and mediation. Story telling, calming crafts and games.
Half Day is 9 am - 1 pm; Full day is 9 am - 4 pm. 

Hermitage Clay Camp 

July 17-21 (ages 8-12)
August 7-11 (ages 8-12)
August 21-25 (ages 11-14) 
Hermitage Museum & Gardens, 7637 N. Shore Rd. 

Campers will expand their imagination as they explore the exciting world of clay. A wide variety of ceramic techniques will be covered such as shaping clay, designing and construction projects, and clay surface decoration and glazing.

Campers can enjoy one or multiple weeks of camp. Each week incorporates a special tour of the museum, guest instructors, artist demonstrations, a nature walk and time in the gardens and grounds. (9 am - 4 pm with lunch hour in the middle.

Virginia Zoo

Campers will use their detective skills as they follow the trail to solve the mysteries of the animal kingdom. Earn a detective Badge. $300 zoo member/$350 non-member. 9 am to 4 pm

What does it take to be a zookeeper? Come find out with this in depth look at everything zookeepers do from feeding animals and cleaning exhibits, to behavior training, and conservation projects. Each day campers will learn about zookeeping with up-close animal encounters. Monday-Friday, 9 am-4 pm. $300/child zoo members; $350/child non-members.
