Board of Building Code Appeals
The Board of Building Code Appeals is appointed by the City Council to consider appeals relating to the separate areas of regulation of the Uniform Statewide Building Code under
Norfolk City Code Section 11.1-5 and pursuant to
36-105 of the Code of Virginia. The board shall meet not less than once per year and shall annually select one member to serve as chairman.
Membership Composition:
The Board of Building Code Appeals shall consist of not less than five (5) members to be appointed by the City Council, who shall to the extent possible represent different occupational or professional fields. Employees or officials of the city shall not serve as board members. Of the five (5) members, at least one shall be a building construction or home improvement professional with at least ten (10) years of experience in such field; one shall be an architect or professional engineer licensed by the commonwealth to practice as such; and three (3) shall be citizens of the city at large. Three (3) alternate members shall be appointed to serve in the absence of any regular member of the board.
