The Public Information Office provides internal and external public relations, information, and marketing support to all divisions of the Norfolk Department of Utilities. We seek to develop mutual understanding and support between Norfolk Utilities and the community.
The services offered by the Public Information Office include:
- Classroom Visits
- Submission to Outside Publications
- Coolers and Cups - Borrow our 5-gallon self-service coolers, filled with ice and Norfolk quality tap water. We even provide the cups. Each cooler fills 80, 8-ounce servings.
Our education outreach program provides real-world educational experiences about water, earth's most vital resource, for young people in classrooms, libraries, after-school programs, community-based organizations, etc., as well as supporting the development of professionals.
- Kindergarten through 6 grade - Hands-on 45-minute sessions designed to teach water science to grade students. The curriculum is aligned to national and state core standards and highlights STEM activities.
- 7 through 12 grade, college and professional - The water-workforce consist of a wide range of professionals, such as accounting, engineering, construction and maintenance, and others, who are available to speak as subject expert matters.
The Norfolk Department of Utilities offers an Apprenticeship Program (PDF) to provide training and on-the-job work experience for individuals interested in a career in the maintenance of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure and water production facilities. Future dates for this program have not been announced. Interested applicants are encouraged to watch for openings on our Job Listings site.
