Equity in Action

The Equity in Action team is committed to providing shared learning opportunities for City of Norfolk employees and enhanced access to programs and services for residents. 

The Equity in Action division works to embed equity and inclusion in the city culture through a continuum of services. Through the Equity Ambassadors Training initiative, we equip city employees to share Diversity, Equity and Inclusion tools and resources with their respective departments. Each graduate of the training develops a project designed to create a more equitable and inclusive environment. 

In addition, the division provides technical assistance related to the accessibility of city facilities and programs for people with disabilities and limited English proficiency. We work to ensure policies, procedures and practices are implemented in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, applicable and related civil rights laws. The City of Norfolk is committed to providing equal access to people of all abilities throughout the city.
