Renters
The RentingSmart Academy will give you the opportunity to gain knowledge of renter rights and responsibilities, lease obligations, and the benefits of renters insurance coverage. In addition, you will learn about proper maintenance and repairs, security deposits, eviction procedures and proper notice requirements such as allowable rent increases.
Landlords/Property Managers
Rent Ready Certification through the RentingSmart Academy demonstrates to the city and its residents that you are committed to providing quality housing to your tenants. You will also be able to market those certified properties that are available for rent on the City of Norfolk Rent Ready website at no cost to you for a period of six months.
Join RentingSmart Academy TODAY! Class Registration begins August 4, 2025. Classes begin September 2025. All classes are Virtual unless stated otherwise in registration. It is recommended to attend classes on a desktop device such as a computer or laptop. *New classes are added periodically. We do not host classes May- August.
