NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have charged a man in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation.
While investigating a missing persons case, detectives located an unresponsive woman, later identified as Lina M. Guerra, 39, of Norfolk, at a home in the 300 block of E Main Street on February 5th.
She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Following an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on February 10th, Guerra’s death was ruled to be a homicide.
Guerra had been reported missing on February 4th.
Following their investigation, detectives have charged 38-year-old David Varela with first-degree murder.
Detectives have not released the motive or circumstances surrounding this homicide.
This does remain an active investigation, and there are no further details to share.
