[ARCHIVED] ISBioTech Hosts International Bio-Medical Conference in Norfolk

The International Society for BioProcess Technology (ISBioTech) is holding its 8th Spring Meeting March 5-7, 2018, in downtown Norfolk, Virginia.

NORFOLK, VA: The International Society for BioProcess Technology (ISBioTech) is holding its 8th Spring Meeting March 5-7, 2018, in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. This is the organization’s longest-running and largest meeting on the development and production of biologics for human healthcare. Scientists and engineers from around the world will attend to share experience with viral and cell-based products.

ISBioTech’s Founder, Keith L. Carson, said “we chose Norfolk for this meeting since our organization is based there, and there is a long-standing collaboration with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) which provides opportunities for graduate students to assist and learn from the participants. In addition, ISBioTech is excited to host this meeting in the brand new Hilton Norfolk The Main and The Exchange Conference Center near the recently remodeled Waterside District.”

"Norfolk is excited to host this conference and the hundreds of global leaders in biotechnology who are innovators in the development and production of biologics,” said Norfolk Mayor Kenneth C. Alexander. “Dedicated scientists and engineers who are leaders in this critical field will get the opportunity to engage our local institutions that are also creating pioneering technologies and practices in molecular biology and virology.”

The meeting is composed of three concurrent programs which cover: viral gene vectors and vaccines, baculovirus expression technology, and cellular therapies. Combining these three programs is unique in the industry and this meeting is considered to be one of the premier events for these technologies. The organizers have hosted meetings on these individual applications since 1994, and were the first to organize a meeting of this type for cell and gene therapies, which have become vitally important applications in the treatment of cancer and many other diseases.

“We are grateful that the Norfolk based ISBioTech continues to make our city a destination for biomedical innovation,” said Mayor Alexander.

About ISBioTech: The organization was established to help scientists and engineers share the technology needed to develop and produce safe and effective biological products. It now organizes two annual meetings with three programs per meeting. Its companion publication, the BioProcessing Journal, was started in 2002 and is one of the leading, peer-reviewed publications on process development and production technology.
