NORFOLK, VA – The Summer Reading Program (SRP), hosted by Norfolk Public Library and Slover Library, kicks off on Saturday, June 25. Residents of all ages are encouraged to read books, participate in special events and programs in-person and online. Registered participants are eligible to win prizes throughout the summer.
This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities and signing up online is easy! Beginning Saturday, June 25, go to https://norfolk.beanstack.com/reader365 to register using the Beanstack app. Download the Beanstack app to your device to track minutes. The more you read, make weekly goals, and track minutes, the greater your chances to win prizes.
Each summer, residents are encouraged to pick up a book and track their reading in an effort to prevent the “summer slide,” or the decline in reading ability that can occur over the summer months when school is out. Parents are encouraged to set the example by participating in SRP, too!
Youth, ages birth to 17, can win three different levels of prizes each week, including board games, a beach tent, and a themed prize basket. Themes vary from gardening and recreation to engineering and photography. Adults can win a weekly $50 gift card. At the end of the summer, there is an ocean-inspired grand prize drawing for kids, as well as adults. Patrons can also visit any branch to pick up weekly grab-and-go activity bags!
SRP is funded by the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library and goes through August 6. NPL and Slover would like to thank the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library for generously supporting SRP.
