CERT members help their neighborhood by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Participants must complete ALL classes to complete the course.
The next CERT class will be held on Tuesday evenings, starting in September 2024. Classes are held from 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Emergency Operations Center, 3661 E. Virginia Beach Blvd.

- Tuesday, Sept. 17
- Tuesday, Sept. 24
- Tuesday, Oct. 1
- Saturday, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon. (Final Exercise Drill)
CERT is a free training course that teaches citizens how to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies and disasters with knowledge and hands-on skills.
Class includes:
- Disaster Preparedness & Terrorism/Personnel safety
- Medical Operations I & II
- Search & Rescue
- Communications and Incident Command Structure
- Disaster Psychology
- Fire Safety
- Final Class Exercise to demonstrate everything you have learned in a disaster setting
