NORFOLK, Va. – For the fourth consecutive year, the Norfolk Employees’ Retirement System (NERS) and the Department of Finance have been honored with the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR). The NERS has earned this significant achievement each year it has produced a PAFR.
The PAFR is a summarized report designed to help the average citizen better understand the NERS’ audited financial statements — compared to the more comprehensive Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
This award recognizes the NERS’ conformance with the highest standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal in its governmental popular reports.
Earlier this year, the NERS also received the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellent in Financial Reporting for its FY 2023 ACFR, marking the 19th consecutive year it earned this prestigious honor. These awards represent a long-standing tradition of excellence, reflecting the NERS’ diligent and rigorous efforts to manage the System’s finances while producing an engaging and comprehensive resource that communicates the NERS’ financial position with transparency.
