NORFOLK, Va. – The City of Norfolk and Virginia Symphony Orchestra will host “A Tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr.” at the Harrison Opera House on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. Musical performances will include Earl Bynum & The Mount, featuring Stephanie Sanders on saxophone and Noah Lawson on double bass. The program will be conducted by Everett McCorvey.
The City of Norfolk will host the annual ceremony and march honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Attucks Theatre, 1010 Church St., and feature a “A Tale of Two Legends” – Dr. King and the Attucks itself, the oldest entertainment venue in Norfolk. Kevin “The Moose” Anderson (Hampton University professor and WHOV operations director and DJ) will lead the program. Following the ceremony, participants are invited to march in unity to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument located at 701 Church St.
Both events are free to the public; advance registration is suggested, but not necessary to attend either event.
The City of Norfolk’s offices will be closed on Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The closures include libraries, The Slover, Norfolk Animal Care Center and all recreation facilities, the Norfolk Courthouse, Commissioner of Revenue, Treasurer's Office and Norfolk Department of Public Health.

The SPSA Norfolk Transfer Station, 3136 Woodland Ave., will be open on Jan. 20, 8 a.m. – noon.
