[ARCHIVED] April is Pothole Month in Norfolk

Help us spot and repair potholes!

NORFOLK, Va. – After a wet and snowy winter, Spring is here and potholes are making their presence known on Norfolk’s streets. That’s why the City of Norfolk designated April as Pothole Month.

Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in the pavement. As temperatures fluctuate, the water expands and contracts, causing the pavement to weaken and break apart under the weight of vehicles. It’s essential to repair these hazards to keep roads safe for drivers. Repairing potholes for longevity requires consistent warmer temperatures – which is why the City has to wait until Spring to address them. Last year, crews repaired more than 1,400 potholes throughout the City.

Norfolk’s dedicated pothole patrol team is ready to spring into action! Equipped with an on-site asphalt plant, the City has the materials, trained operators and staff to efficiently patch and repair potholes quickly. Residents can help by reporting potholes when they see them.
