[ARCHIVED] Safety Alert: Stop the Chain!

Stop Daisy Chaining Power Strips Image Link

Never "daisy-chain" power strips. That means plugging one power strip into another. While it may seem like a clever hack to add more outlets, it actually creates a serious fire risk and violates electrical safety codes.

Why does it matter?

Daisy-chaining can overload circuits, causing them to overheat and potentially catch fire. Power strips, surge protectors and extension cords are not designed to be connected to each other. OSHA, electrical code and fire code prohibit this in workplaces.

What to check:

  • Make sure power strips, surge protectors and extension cords are not connected to each other.
  • Space heaters and heated blankets must be plugged directly into wall outlets – never into power strips.

Please notify your supervisor if you don't have enough outlets to plug in your equipment safely.

Safety is everyone's responsibility!

You also have the right to anonymously report safety and health concerns using the Safety Complaint/Near Miss Submission Form.
