[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police Investigating a Motor Vehicle Crash with Serious Injuries

UPDATE 08/25/2014:
The rider of the moped is currently in stable condition. Investigation reveals that the rider fell asleep while operating his moped. Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in this crash. He has been charged with Failure to Maintain Proper Control, Reckless Driving.

On 08/24/2014, around 1:50 P.M., a call was received in the Emergency Communications Center for a single vehicle (moped) accident with injuries in the 1300 block of Kempsville Road. Norfolk Police and Fire Rescue responded, and discovered one adult male suffering with serious injuries, as a result of the crash. The man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police have determined that the moped was travelling northbound in the 1300 block of Kempsville Road, when it struck the guardrail. No other vehicle was involved in the crash, and the man was the only person on the moped. The operator of the moped was conscious and breathing, when he was transported to the hospital. At this time, it is unknown why the moped struck the guardrail. Norfolk Police are currently investigating this crash.
