[ARCHIVED] Police Investigating a Motor Vehicle Accident, involving a Light Pole

On September 2, 2014, around 1:45 P.M., a call was received in the Emergency Communications Center for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East 26th Street and Monticello Avenue. Norfolk Police Traffic Unit Officers responded. Preliminary investigation reveals that an adult male, driving a Chevrolet pick-up truck, was traveling southbound on Monticello Avenue, disregarded a red light, and struck a 2-door Volvo, driven by an adult female, who was traveling eastbound on East 26th Street. After the Volvo was struck by the truck, the Volvo then struck a light pole. Dominion Virginia Power Company is currently on scene, and have begun repairs to the light pole. All traffic north and south bound on Monticello Avenue are being re-routed onto East 25th Street, and East 27th Street. The estimated time for repairs, is approximately one hour. There were no injuries as a result of this crash. The male driver has been charged with Disregard a Red Light, and Drive without a Valid Operator’s License.
