[ARCHIVED] NPD Crime Prevention Tips To Prevent Car Break-Ins

Car larcenies can occur anywhere, primarily in places where there is a large concentration of vehicles. This would include parking garages, shopping facilities, churches, sporting/recreation events, and restaurants. They can also occur right in your own neighborhoods.

There are three simple steps you can take to help reduce your chances in becoming a victim:

Step 1: Take all your valuables out of your car, and secure them in the trunk or even hide them underneath your seats. Remember: Out of Sight, Out of Mind!

Step 2: Ensure all windows are rolled up properly and all doors are closed tightly. Do not give thieves a chance to get into your car!

Step 3: Lock your car. Make sure all your doors are closed and locked, by physically and visibly checking them. Check before you leave!

Check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/NorfolkPD to watch Officer Roger Whitley explain each step, to help reduce your chances of becoming a victim.
