The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team has identified this morning's accident victim as 24-year-old Chandler Ferguson of Suffolk, Virginia. The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Ferguson was traveling on his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Hampton Boulevard shortly before 2:00 a.m. He then lost control of his motorcycle and ran into the eastside curb near the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and W. Princess Anne Road. After running off the roadway, the motorcycle struck a tree and Mr. Ferguson was pronounced at the scene shortly thereafter. The intersection was closed throughout the course of the investigation, but re-opened shortly after 6:00 a.m. for regular traffic patterns. Speed does appear to have played a factor in the accident; however, it is unknown if alcohol was involved at this time.
Shortly before 2:00 am, police were called to the intersection of W. Princess Anne and Hampton Boulevard for a single vehicle accident involving a motorcyclist.
