[ARCHIVED] Police Investigating Fatal Accident Involving Pedestrian

Shortly after 9 p.m. today, police were called to the 3100 block of Azalea Garden Road for a 50 year-old man that was struck by a car.

The pedestrian was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the 50 year-old man was in the southbound traffic lane attempting to cross the street, when a sedan struck the man in the roadway.

The vehicle and driver involved in the crash remained at the scene.

The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is currently investigating this crash.

The identity of the man will be withheld until proper next of kin is notified.

Both north and south bound lanes in the 3100 block of Azalea Garden Road will be closed to traffic.
