The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue and Police Department are warning residents regarding phone scams.

Callers are impersonating City Officials in order to request donations and/or payment of fines. Impersonators are soliciting donations for burn victims, to purchase equipment for Norfolk Fire Rescue, or claim that the victim has missed jury duty, and demand money in order to dismiss an active warrant.

Several Norfolk residents have contacted the Police Department to report the scam.

Norfolk Police Department, Norfolk Fire Rescue and Norfolk Sheriff’s Office DO NOT solicit donations or request fine payments over the phone.

Norfolk Police are investigating these scams. Anyone who has fallen victim should call the Norfolk Police Department Detective Division at 757-664-7026.

Solicitation Tips:
•If you have any questions regarding the validity of the organization that is requesting
donations, hang up with the caller and research for a phone number for the
organization, and inquire about their donation process.
•Never provide your bank or credit card account numbers over the phone.
