Please join the Norfolk Police Department for their annual Peace Officers’ Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 11th, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in front of the City Hall complex at 810 Union Street.
Since 1962, the week of May 15th has been designated National Police Week by the Congress of the United States. Each year, the Department holds a service to honor the memory of the 39 Norfolk police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while working to keep citizens safe and proudly wearing the badge. During the service, they also pay tribute to surviving family members of their fallen officers. We welcome your presence and support.
The Honorable Mayor Paul Fraim will provide the official proclamation.
Followed by the proclamation, the Norfolk Police Department is pleased to welcome former Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney, Linda Bryant, as this year’s honored guest speaker. After serving the Norfolk community in the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for 18 years, Linda Bryant was recently appointed by Attorney General Mark Herring as Deputy Attorney General for the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Division.
The ceremony is free and open to the public and we welcome your presence and support. The media is encouraged to attend and cameras are welcome. After the service, a brief reception will follow. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held inside City Hall, in City Council Chambers.
