[ARCHIVED] Man arrested after leading police on pursuit

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., Norfolk Police attempted to stop a car for a traffic violation at the intersection of 26th Street and Colonial Avenue.

The car, a white Infiniti, refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. A police car assisting in the pursuit was traveling northbound on Tidewater Drive with lights and sirens activated, when it collided with a silver sedan that was traveling westbound on Lindenwood Avenue.

The collision occurred in the intersection.

The man and woman in the silver sedan were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A Police Officer was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident is still under investigation.

The driver of the vehicle being pursued has been identified as 35-year-old Dominique Matthews. He was taken into custody at the intersection of Robin Hood Road and Sewells Point Road after pulling over.

Matthews faces several charges to include Felony Eluding and Endangerment, Driving on a Suspended License 11th Offense, and no Inspection Sticker.

No other information is available for release at this time.
