[ARCHIVED] Bicyclist has serious injuries after morning accident

Shortly after 8:30 this morning, Norfolk Police responded to the 4100 block of Gosnold Avenue for a motor vehicle accident and discovered a bicyclist lying in the roadway.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a woman driving a vehicle was traveling southbound in the 4100 block of Gosnold Avenue, when a bicyclist entered the roadway from the sidewalk. The vehicle incidentally struck the man riding the bicycle. The woman operating the vehicle stayed at the scene for police and fire-rescue to respond.

The bicyclist was transported by medics to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for what appears to be serious injuries.

Police continue to investigate the incident and remain on scene. No charges have been confirmed for either party involved.

The 4100 block of Gosnold Avenue and the 600-700 blocks of Carolina Avenue are currently closed to all traffic.
