[ARCHIVED] One dead after evening shooting

Norfolk detectives are investigating an evening shooting that left a young man dead and police searching for clues.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., police responded to the 6100 block of Chesapeake Boulevard for a report of a person who had been shot.

Upon arrival, police located what appeared to be a younger man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported by medics to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The young man's identity will not be released until next of kin have been properly notified.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
