The Norfolk Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to obtain its first accreditation status by verifying that it meets professional standards. Administered by the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a Public Information Session on October 13, 2015. The session will be conducted at the Third Patrol Division Community Room, located at 901 Asbury Avenue in Norfolk. The Public Information Session is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 757-664-8204 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on October 13, 2015.
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the Public Information Session, are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Norfolk Police Department, Police Administration Building, located at 100 Brooke Avenue. The local contact is Accreditation Manager Lieutenant Karen Alsup. Lieutenant Alsup can be contacted at 757-664-3299 or by email at email@example.com.
Email comments may also be sent using the address of “firstname.lastname@example.org”. All emails will be forwarded directly to the on-site assessors for review.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Norfolk Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to:
