[ARCHIVED] Norfolk police close major intersection

Norfolk police have closed a major intersection and advise motorists to avoid the area.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. this morning, Norfolk police responded to a motor vehicle accident, which caused significant damage to surrounding property.

The preliminary investigation has revealed a motorist traveling eastbound on E. Princess Anne Road ran off the roadway as he approached the N. Military Highway intersection. The man’s vehicle struck a traffic pole, severing the pole in half and causing the hanging traffic signals to drop significantly.

While police were arriving to the initial scene, another motorist traveling eastbound on E. Princess Anne Road struck the hanging traffic signals.

Police have closed the intersection at E. Princess Anne Road and N. Military Highway indefinitely while traffic engineers work to repair the damaged pole and signals.

There were no injuries reported from the scene, and police have not confirmed if charges were secured against the first motorist.

There is no further information available for release at this time.
